At The Movies In Austin!

Image
Movies are probably my real, true love in life. Especially the classics.  Now I could bore you to tears with a long-winded lecture about why you’re obligated as a human being to experience classic cinema for yourself, but I’ll save some time and just say this much--they’re good. REALLY good. And even if the old black and white style isn’t part of the mainstream anymore, it’s still nonetheless an important means of experiencing the films that shaped the course of cinema as we know it today.  For Austin residents, the time has come to fully experience the beauty of classic cinema, along with plenty of assorted favorites, under the glow of the legendary Paramount Theatre. Running throughout the summer all the way to August, guests can attend a screening of some of the best films that cinema has to offer, from Psycho to Jaws to Sunset Boulevard, and more! Even modern classics like Get Out will be making an appearance as well. Austin’s Paramount Theatre is one of the most interesti...

You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat: Austin Presents Jaws On The Water

Image
Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water... When Jaws first came to theaters in the summer of 1975, no one could have foreseen the massive impact it had on movies, as well as the entire concept of the Hollywood blockbuster. As the first official summer blockbuster introduced to mass audiences, Jaws holds a high level of significance for both movie buffs and audiences everywhere.  As such, what better way to pay tribute to this amazing film than to experience it the way it was always meant to be? That is to say, on the WATER. Alamo Drafthouse has partnered with High Beam Events to feature Jaws directly on the water at Volente Beach on Lake Travis. The film will be shown on a huge inflatable outdoor screen placed at the water’s edge with viewers getting the chance to watch the movie while floating in inner tubes, allowing for a swimmingly spooky atmosphere to add to the overall experience. Viewers might even feel a tiny little tug below the depths from time to time ...

Austin Drives Me Batty!

Image
Austin is absolutely wild...literally! One of the more exciting things to do around the city is to take a gander at some of its most iconic imagery and wildlife. And I’m not talking about its downtown area! One thing that Austin has above all other cities in Texas is its absolutely stunning display of public bat watching.  Yes, you heard me...BATS. These squeaky little critters might seem a bit spooky up close, but there’s something eerily breathtaking about seeing a bunch of them flying around from a distance. And Austin fits that description swimmingly, to the point where Austin residents now have the opportunity to see it for themselves during the perfect hours of the evening!  Capital Cruises has, for many years now, advertised its internationally-famous bat watching tour. Tours depart 30 minutes before sunset and allows for guests to experience the heart-pounding magic of watching these fascinating creatures lift-off together in the night sky--a real eye-opening experienc...
